Up to the end of May

Wednesday 14th March, on call for work, so I drove down to Farlington marshes, where I saw the following: Little grebe, Mute swan, Canada goose, Dark-bellied brent goose, Shelduck, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Pintail, GARGANEY, Pheasant, Moorhen, Coot, Oystercatcher, Lapwing, Black-tailed godwit, Redshank, Mediterranean gull, Black-headed gull, Common gull, Herring gull, Great black-backed gull, Woodpigeon, Collared dove, Skylark, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, CETTI’S WARBLER, Magpie, Carrion crow, Starling & Greenfinch.

TOTAL FOR YEAR = 139 (Hampshire year list = 136)

Then on to Mark Ash wood New forest, didn't see or hear ant Lesser spotted woodpeckers, did see: Woodcock, Stock dove, Green woodpecker, Great spotted woodpecker, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Song thrush, Marsh tit, Coal tit, Blue tit, Great tit, Nuthatch, Treecreeper & Chaffinch.

Spent the last part of the day down at Keyhaven & Pennington marshes, seeing: Little grebe, Great crested grebe, Mute swan, Canada goose, Dark-bellied brent goose, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Mallard, Pintail, Shoveler, Tufted duck, Kestrel, Moorhen, Coot, Oystercatcher, Golden plover, Grey plover, Lapwing, Dunlin, RUFF, Black-tailed godwit, Bar-tailed godwit, Curlew, Redshank, Turnstone, Black-headed gull, Herring gull, Great black-backed gull, Woodpigeon, Rock pipit, Blackbird, Magpie, Carrion crow & Starling.

Work sent me to a site near Hounslow Greater London, from the end of March and all of April.
My first chance to get out of the data centre came on Tuesday 10th April, where I went up to Staines reservoirs, seeing: Great crested grebe, Black-necked grebe, Cormorant, Canada goose, Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Mallard, Shoveler, Tufted duck, COMMON SCOTER, Goldeneye, Coot, LITTLE GULL, Black-headed gull, COMMON TERNARCTIC TERN, Woodpigeon, Pied wagtail, Robin, Magpie, Carrion crow & Starling.


TOTAL FOR YEAR = 144

While up on the causeway at Staines reservoirs, found out about Ring ouzels on Staines moor, so I made the short drive to Staines moor, and had a great walk seeing: Little egret, Grey heron, Mallard, Tufted duck, Kestrel, Pheasant, Lapwing, Redshank, Black-headed gull, Woodpigeon, Ring-necked parakeet, Green woodpecker, Skylark, Meadow pipit, Grey wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, WHEATEARRING OUZEL, Blackbird, BLACKCAP, Chiffchaff, Great tit, Magpie, Starling, Greenfinch & Goldfinch.

Monday 16th April, and I had a lunchtime walk, from the data centre in Hounslow. I went down Green Lane and into a part of the now left to go wild Hounslow heath golf course. Then into Donkey wood and along a stretch of the River crane, I could view part of the small reservoir. Then back into Green lane, around the sports pitches and back to the data centre. I noted the following: Great crested grebe, Grey heron, Mallard, Red kite, Red-legged partridge, Moorhen ,Coot, Feral pigeon, Woodpigeon, Ring-necked parakeet, KINGFISHER, Green woodpecker, Great spotted woodpecker, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Long-tailed tit, Blue tit, Great tit, Jay, Magpie, Carrion crow, Starling, House sparrow & Goldfinch.

Tuesday 17th April, before going to work, I had a walk around Yateley common, to keep my Hampshire list ticking along. Canada goose, Black-headed gull, Woodpigeon, Green woodpecker, WOODLARKTREE PIPIT, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Stonechat, Blackbird, DARTFORD WARBLER, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Long-tailed tit, Coal tit, Blue tit, Great tit, Jay, Carrion crow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch & Goldfinch.






TOTAL FOR YEAR = 151 (Hampshire year list = 141)

Thursday 19th April, and a lunchtime walk from the data centre around Hounslow heath, where I enjoyed seeing the following: Red kite, Buzzard, Feral pigeon, Woodpigeon, Ring-necked parakeet, Green woodpecker, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, LESSER WHITETHROATWHITETHROAT, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, WILLOW WARBLER, Blue tit, Great tit, Jay, Magpie, Carrion crow & Chaffinch.

Lunchtime walk on Friday 20th it was back to Staines reservoirs, for Great crested grebe, Grey heron, Canada goose, Shelduck, Mallard, Shoveler, Tufted duck, Coot, Black-headed gull, common tern. Woodpigeon, SWALLOW, Pied wagtail, Wheatear & Carrion crow.

Wednesday 25th and took the chance to have a morning walk before work, again in the data centre. So I went to Edenbrook country park (Hitches lane) Fleet, parking up in the leisure centre car park.
A good walk seeing: Grey heron, Mute swan, Greylag goose, Canada goose, Mallard, Tufted duck, Red kite, Moorhen, Coot, Red kite, Moorhen, Coot, LITTLE RINGED PLOVER, Lapwing, COMMON SANDPIPER, Black-headed gull, Feral pigeon, Woodpigeon, Skylark, HOUSE MARTIN, Pied wagtail, Wren, Blackbird, SEDGE WARBLERREED WARBLER, Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, Blue tit, Treecreeper, Magpie, Carrion crow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch & Reed bunting.

TOTAL FOR YEAR = 160 (Hampshire year list = 148)

After work I drove to Fleet pond, hoping to see the reported Little gull, it had gone, but going to the top of Fleet railway stations car park, had a good view over the pond, where I saw: Great crested grebe, Grey heron, Mute swan, Greylag goose, Canada goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Tufted duck, Red kite, Coot, Black-headed gull, Lesser black-backed gull, SAND MARTIN, Swallow, Blackbird & Jackdaw.

After work on Friday 27th I drove down the M3 to Shawford water meadows, hoping to hear and see a new bird for my Hampshire List. I had recieved some information on this bird the year before. This being the first time I could act on this information. I walked down the footpath and noted: Mallard, Pheasant, Woodpigeon, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Carrion crow and then I heard the "reeling" of the GRASSHOPPER WARBLER, it was in a small tree in the middle of the water meadow.

Wednesday 2nd May, I was on holiday as I had booked my Suzuki SV650s in for a service & MOT. After I had walked back home, and cooled down, it's hot work walking in bike leathers. I decided to spend some time back up on the car park at Fleet railway stations car park. Where I noted the following: Great crested grebe, Grey heron, Mute swan, Greylag goose, Canada goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Tufted duck, Buzzard, Black-headed gull, Lesser black-backed gull, Arctic tern, Common tern, Stock dove, Woodpigeon, SWIFT, Sand martin, Swallow, House martin, Pied wagtail, Blue tit, Jackdaw, Carrion crow, Chaffinch & Goldfinch.

Thursday 3rd May, another day on holiday, another service & MOT, this time our Volvo XC60 in Chertsey. I knew about Monk's walk that goes past Thorpe park and the lakes, so of I went for a walk, seeing: Great crested grebe, Cormorant, Grey heron, Mute swan, Canada goose, Egyptian goose, Shelduck, Mallard, Tufted duck, Moorhen, Coot, Lapwing, Black-headed gull, Common tern, Woodpigeon, Ring-necked parakeet, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Song thrush, Whitethroat, GARDEN WARBLER, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Blue tit, Great tit, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion crow & Chaffinch.

Friday 11th May, and on my way home from working in Bristol I drove to Stockbridge down, hoping for Cuckoo & Turtle dove, negative on both, did see: Buzzard, Red-legged partridge, Woodpigeon, Swallow, Wren, Blackbird, Song thrush, Whitethroat, Garden warbler, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, Jay, Magpie, Jackdaw & Yellowhammer.

Monday 14th another day booked as holiday, so I could spend a day birding in Hampshire. I started at Edenbrook country park (Hitches lane) Fleet, where I added CUCKOO.

Then on to Casbrook common, where I enjoyed watching and listening to NIGHTINGALE & Lesser Whitethroat.

Finally down to Keyhaven & Pennington marshes for SPOONBILLKNOTCURLEW SANDPIPER LITTLE TERN

Wednesday 16th May, and as I was working in Bournemouth, on my way home I dropped into Acres down, seeing: Buzzard, Cuckoo, Swift, Wren, Robin, Stonechat, Blackbird, Song thrush, Mistle thrush, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Willow warbler, Coal tit, Carrion crow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Siskin, Linnet, Bullfinch, COMMON CROSSBILL & Hawfinch.

TOTAL FOR YEAR = 171 (Hampshire year list = 163)

Monday 21st another day booked as holiday so I could go birding. First stop was at Over Wallop, and like the grasshopper warbler seen at Shawford water meadows, I had been given information on a bird that I needed on my Hampshire list. I walked down the public footpath as scanned the fields, seeing: Pheasant, Woodpigeon, Skylark, Swallow, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Whitethroat, Magpie, Rook, Chaffinch, Yellowhammer, CORN BUNTING, and then on a bare area surrounded by electric fencing were a pair of STONE CURLEW

Then on to Martin down, where I saw the following: Buzzard, Pheasant, Woodpigeon, TURTLE DOVE, Green woodpecker, Skylark, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Song thrush, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Blue tit, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Raven, Chaffinch & Yellowhammer.

Thursday 24th May, I was working in Bristol, and at lunchtime I drove the 7 miles to Pensford, where I found the church which is next to the River Chew, and I enjoyed some of my best ever views of DIPPER. As I watched a pair collecting food and taking it back to their nest. Also seen: Mallard, Woodpigeon, Swift, House martin, Grey wagtail, Pied wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Blue tit, Jackdaw, House sparrow, Greenfinch & Goldfinch.
